The home of the BBSAI is Beenleigh bike park, easily the most famous and historic "skate" park in the country. Beenleigh has always been a mecca for aussie riders, producing most of the previous, current and upcoming pro riders.
Old school rider Roy Jarmey shares his memories of Beenleigh.
The first memories I have of Beenleigh freestyle was the introduction of a 6ft ramp at the bottom end of the car park for the BMX track.. Pretty soon an 8ft ramp was brought in and put beside it and painted the same color.
Then they built the concrete 7 to 5ft half pipe that still stands today. From the late 80's till now, the copeing-less concrete half pipe at Beenleigh Bike Park, has been the inspiration for hundreds of riders.
I arrived one Saturday (early 90's) as always to find the old ramps that were up at paradise road Woodridge had some how found there way into the newly bitumen sealed area at the back of the old toilets. Thanks for the ramps Doug!
Halfpipes of all sizes and here they were at my favorite bike park. The ramps are still in operation and the park is starting to get even better with new ramps being added and upgrades to the park happening all the time.
I would like to say hello to some of the friends from back in those days that made Beenleigh bike park what it is today. Doug Larsen, without Doug there would not have been a bike park! Ian Larson, Terry Mishky, Brian Kime, Robert and Michelle Law, Little Ryan Guettler, Travis Turasen, Camillo, Rick Hunt, Aitkin, Mong, Jarret, Ling Ling, the guy that used to travel on the train from Ipswich every weekend with all the revcor parts on his bike and anyone that I've forgotten that considers themselves as a sloth...here's to you.
Old Skool.
Roy Jarmey.
