AboutAbout

Who we are

The Beenleigh BMX Stunt Association Inc. (BBSAI) is an incorporated, not for profit ogranisation, based in Beenleigh Queensland Australia and is currently headed by the following committee members -

  • President: Mark Schnieder
  • Vice President: Clint Millar
  • Secretary: ----
  • Treasurer: ----
  • Auxiliary members: Roy Jarmey and Lauren Brown

Our objectives

  • To promote the sport of BMX freestyle within (but not limited to) the community of Beenleigh.
  • To develop and maintain the BMX related facilities at the Doug Larsen Park.
  • Encourage the growth of the sport via competitions held at Doug Larsen park.

Origins of the BBSAI

In Autumn 2002 a meeting was held at Doug Larsen park following the removal of three home made ramps that Gold Coast City Council deemed unsafe.

Headed by Mark Schnieder, Nick Richardson and Debbie Richardson, the idea for an official association was put forward to local riders in order to save the park from being demolished completely. A handful of volunteers came forward and the fight to restore the park began.

On the 11 of April 2003 the BBSA became an official incorporated association.

Success!

Since it's inception the BBSA has successfully educated Gold Coast City Council about freestyle BMX and have prevented the further removal of ramps from Beenleigh. Consequently GCCC have made improvements to the park including;

  • The replacement of three rider built ramps.
  • The repair of existing ramps.
  • The removal of the unused toilet block including re tarring.
  • The installation of metal seating.
  • The installation of a shade shelter.
  • The installation wooden bollards to prevent vehicle access to the park.
  • The repair of dirt jumps.
  • The installation of Austalia's largest steel spine/wallride combo ramp, costing in excess of $100,000.
  • 2006 - Gold Coast City Council pledge $720,000 in funding for improvements to the park.

The BBSA will continue to work with the GCCC to improve and expand the park with the goal of making Beenleigh the premier freestyle BMX park in Australia.
